December 16, 2014
Angelina Jolie, Blake Lively and Taylor Swift all come from different worlds but they all have one thing in common. They all rock great hair! Between the 3 of them they wear ALL the different curls that we see and love. Here is your step by step guide to achieving all these beautiful looks. *TIPS* -Hair that is slightly dirty (washed the day before instead of this morning) will hold curl better. -If you’re just learning how to curl your hair, we would suggest using a glove to prevent burning your fingers. -Different tools will give different curls. -Different looks require different products.
A. Beachy Waves:
Start with clean hair that is slightly damp
Spray in a salt spray and scrunch to activate the texture
Set the waves with medium hold hairspray. This will hold your curls without leaving them feeling stiff.
B. Natural not-so-Natural Curls:
These curls will be the closest you’ll get to making your curls look natural.
Start with hair that is dry and spray in a weightless heat protectant. Hot irons all get extremely hot. It is hot enough to burn your skin so it is definitely hot enough to burn your hair.
Start with a section at the nape and work your way up the head.
At the root of your hair, start wrapping your hair strand from the base of the wand. Keep wrapping towards the tip of the wand. Hold it for 30secs and then let go.
Repeat this until the entire head is complete.
*NOTE* Taylor just did the ends of her bangs, not the entire strand.
Set with medium to firm hairspray.
C. Body Waves
Pre-heat hot rollers.
Start with dry hair and evenly mist in weightless heat protectant.
Start from the nape and use horizontal sections.
*NOTE* the section should be no wider than the diameter of the roller.
Begin rolling the hair from the ends right onto its base and clip into place.
Allow the rollers to FULLY cool before taking them out.
Set the style with flexible to medium hairspray.
D. Glam Curls
Pre-heat hot rollers
Start with dry hair and evenly mist in weightless heat protectant.
Start from the nape and use horizontal sections.
*NOTE* the section should be no wider than the diameter of the roller.
Begin rolling the hair from the ends right up to the scalp, TURN THE ROLLER VERTICAL before clipping it into place.
*NOTE* make sure the part is in place before putting the hot rollers in
Allow the rollers to fully cool before taking them out.
Gently brush out your curls.
Apply a weightless serum to your ends to smooth out any frizz-i-ness
*NOTE* really breakdown the serum in your hands before running it through your hair. We suggest you use ‘nvenn’s replenish’ as serum.
Set with a flexible to medium hold hairspray
E. Structured Curls
Start with dry hair and evenly mist on a weightless heat protectant.
Starting from the nape, use a 1” curling iron and start curling the hair from the ends to the scalp.
After about 30 seconds, release the hair. Gently pull on the ends to stretch the curl.
Repeat until all the hair is done. Style bangs as desired.
Set with medium hold hairspray.
F. Loose Curls
Start with dry hair and evenly mist on a weightless heat protectant.
Starting from the nape, use a 1.5”- 2” curling iron and start curling the hair from the ends
*NOTE* the bottom half of the head is curled right to the scalp and the top half of the head is only curled to the mid-strand.
After about 30 seconds, release the hair.
Repeat until all the hair is done. Style bangs as desired.
Loosen up curls with your fingers by using a weightless serum. Really breakdown the serum before applying it to your hair.
Set with medium hold hairspray.
